Ask yourself that question everyday, we are not talking technique here but your lips as a tool.
Even more so than the rest of the face the lips need a good scrub once in a while. A little bit of sugar from the pantry will do the trick, wet your lips and then run your fingers across on your lips. This action should mimic a toothbrush. If you are watching your waistline (or look to any excuse to buy products) Fresh has an amazing lip scrub sold at your local Sephora store. Please remember, LESS IS MORE.
After you have scrubbed off all the dead skin it is time to nourish the lips. A good lip conditioner should contain hydrating ingredients like Shea butter or Mango Butter. Petroleum products coat and protect against the elements and do not penetrate while the great ingredients mentioned above will penetrate to soften the skin. Even though your favorite lipstick or gloss will say hydrating or nourishing on it, still apply a generous coat of your favorite balm before applying colour. I suggest Chanel's Lip treatment or Dior's Colour awakening Balm.
Please stop your quest for a long lasting lipstick, a woman who wears lipstick must also know that you need to re apply on an hourly basis (sometimes more and sometimes less). Your refusal to reapply will only end in uneven lip colour. A woman should always carry 2 shades of lipstick with her, as a rule something that will be appropriate for ever day and something that can take you to a more evening look. Remember I never mentioned red lips, Red Lips is a mood and a state of mind.
Do you need a lip liner? For certain things lip liners are great, such as keeping your lip colour from "bleeding". The waxy ingredients in lip liner keep the products on the lips and not around the mouth. Another great way to use lip liner is to accentuate your lips, such as giving you a more defined cupids bow. A nude lip liner is key. When i say "nude" I mean a lip liner that looks like the natural colour of your lips. I suggest Nars or Makeup forever for their long lasting shades that will not dry out your lips.
Gloss? Why not! Gloss is great as an addition to any lip look. Dab a little on the centre of the lip to give your lips a three dimensional look. Long lasting lip glosses are sticky, the more emollient a lip gloss is the more you need to re apply. My favorite lip glosses are the best selling lip products from Stila Cosmetics.
Are you a gloss girl/guy, I urge you to buy a lip stick.
